Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

by - March 13, 2015

As part of our itinerary we went to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. I have never seen so many elephants in my whole life! The only elephant i saw was the one in Manila Zoo.

The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants.

We watched as those elephants were taken out of the orphanage to take a bath in the river. And as we paraded along them i could almost imagine what if all of them, it was after all a herd of elephants, went berserk and run and they were all so big. And no matter how old many of them are they could still trampled you down. Well, enough of my wild imaginings. I was kind of sad seeing them but as i look at few baby elephants, i observed that they're not slow at all. The baby elephants were playful and even the old one seem to enjoy taking baths. We were there for about an hour and it gladdens me that somehow they are being taken care of and they are free to roam in that big place.
