Fun workouts to do with a partner

by - February 25, 2017

Exercise, often viewed as a dreadful task, can be more fun and exciting to do especially with your partner or best friend. Not only it is a great time to bond, but you will achieve couple goals or friendship goals and fitness goals as well!

“Exercising with a partner has many advantages – physically, mentally and socially. Working out with someone has been shown to make you happier and more motivated to achieve your fitness goals. When you exercise with a partner, strenuous physical activities can be more tolerable,” says MediCard president Dr. Nicky Montoya.

Here are some exercises to try with your workout buddy:

Rock Climbing. Want to up the ante of your fitness regimen while getting a total body workout? Try rock climbing. It is a full body workout that pushes you to use your entire body to climb a wall. Rock climbing has loads of benefits – it builds muscle, increases endurance, reduces stress, and boosts brain function. In addition, rock climbing teaches you to trust your partner. He is tasked to anchor you to the ground, give enough rope for you to move on to the next handhold and foothold, and keep you safe if you make a misstep.

Cycling. Make cycling more enjoyable by bringing your partner or best friend along! Did you know that an hour of vigorous cycling can burn between 590 to 930 calories? It’s definitely a great way to help both of you lose weight, increase cardiovascular fitness, decrease stress levels and strengthen bones.

Zumba. Dance your way to a fit body and even better, do it with your pal! Zumba is not only a fun and healthy way to bond, it is also a full body workout that burns fat, boosts your mood and increases confidence. In addition, Zumba also works for every age and is a great opportunity to meet people with the same goal as you.

Hiking. Want to see the beauty of nature and work out at the same time? Then hiking is for you and your significant other. Hiking gives you numerous health benefits such as improved blood pressure and blood sugar levels, increased bone density and a strengthened core. Hiking with a partner for your safety is also a good reason why you need someone to accompany you, especially if you’re going through a remote and challenging trail. On top of that, it is also more enjoyable to have someone to share the awesome views with!

Yoga. For a low-impact and relaxing workout with your partner, enroll in a yoga class. By doing the physical poses of yoga, a stronger and more flexible body can be achieved. Yoga allows the mind to be calmer and more focused. It also provides the means to attune the body, thus improving overall health. Yoga also increases circulation, slows heart rate and lowers blood pressure.
