UAAP Season 81 Holds The Last One Standing at SM Mall of Asia, Kobe Paras Debuts as UP Fighting Maroons
The
much-awaited UAAP Season 81 got a jumpstart today as they showcased the player’s
individual skills with the staging of the first ever 1-on-1 hoop challenge held
at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium. The one-day basketball tournament pitted the players
of the participating UAAP teams against each other on a 1-on-1 basketball
challenge.
The event
was graced by no other than the Chairman and Chief Executive of SM Development
Corp., Mr. Hans Sy, SM Supermalls SVP for Marketing Jonjon San Agustin, Coach
Eric Altamirano and other notable basketball personalities.
Aside
from the 1-on-1 hoop challenge, the Last One Standing is a series of activities
with Slam Dunk Contest, a 3-point shootout and a Skills Challenge. All
competitions have a men’s and women’s division, except for the Slam Dunk
Contest which is for men only. With 8 participants per division split into two
groups, the tournament have a single round robin format with the top two
players of each group advancing to the semi-finals. The last two players
standing, namely Jordan Bartlett of DLSU and UP Fighting Maroons Kobe Paras played in the finals. The winners get up to Php 20,000 worth of
products and gift certificates from SM Supermalls.

A day
before the event, University of the Philippines decided to add basketball
sensation Kobe Paras and made his UP debut to the delight of the basketball
fans who were in the Atrium.
