Show choirs present Harana in ‘Awiting kay GLEEng’ tilt
Harana,
that old-fashioned Filipino way of expressing love through songs, still steals
hearts.
Keeping
the love for harana alive, “Awiting kay GLEEng,” Festival Mall’s amateur choral
competition, will present show choirs performing harana at its grand finals set
on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the UGF Expansion Hall of Festival Mall in Alabang
Muntinlupa.
Now
on its eighth year, Awiting kay GLEEng is bringing together vocal groups to
harmonize their way to victory, into two competition categories: community-based
and school-based choirs.
Participating
school-based choirs include Koro Rosario from Holy Rosary College, ICCT Rhythm
and Voices Chorale from ICCT Colleges, LPU-B Vocal Harmonics from Lyceum of the
Philippines University – Batangas, Maranatha Christian Academy High School Glee
Club from Maranatha Christian Academy, National University Chorale from
National University, and Taguig City University Chorale from Taguig City
University; and Amang Aawit from Brgy. 635, Zone 64, District IV and Light of
the Nation Singers from Parish of the Immaculate Conception – Cubao Catherdral
for community-based choirs.
Groups
will perform a repertoire of two Original Pilipino Music (OPM) compositions
from any year, with one song performed in a cappella, each given the choir’s
own modern twist.
Grand
champions will receive Php 30,000 in cash and a trophy, plus Php 5,000 for
their school/company/religious group/community. First runner-up will take home
Php 20,000 in cash and a trophy, while second runner-up will get Php 10,000 in
cash and a trophy. A special prize will be awarded to the group who receives
most likes/reactions on their video performances, which will be uploaded on
Festival Mall’s Facebook page.
