SM City Baliwag continues to dazzle Bulacan as the mall recently transformed into a marvelous ice gallery for a day. Dubbed as the Glittering Ice Fest, the event is a first and only ice attraction in the province consisting of indoor live ice carving show, unique exhibit of ice sculptures as tall as 5-feet and experiential snow activities and installations to bring families a Holiday to remember.

Glittering Ice Fest brings into show the exceptional talents of local ice carvers extraordinaire from Paete, Laguna, as the event displayed live ice carving demonstrations, while snow as added element gave spectators a thrill of excitement, making them feel a lot like winter carnivals abroad.


Shoppers young and old are stunned as blocks of ice were turned into magnificent works of art to form classic Holiday symbols such as Santa Clause, reindeer, snowman and other spectacular monuments only seen in movies.

Hues of light bring life to ice sculptures, making them glitter in frost, while giving emphasis to their unique patterns and intricate details.


Winter wonderland came true for little ones at Glittering Ice Fest where kids fulfilled their dream of building a snowman during the snow art workshop.

Kids and kids at heart had a merry blast as malls in Baliwag and Pulilan recently launch their iconic centerpieces to officially welcome Christmas in the province.



In SM City Baliwag, an attraction measuring 25 feet high and 15 feet diameter Christmas tree was unveiled in line with the theme Glittering Holiday Express. The grand centerpiece transport shoppers’ imagination into a holiday ride recreated through a gigantic Christmas tree with electrifying, blast of colorful led light installations. The fusion of lights brings to life the classic Christmas elements surrounding the tree. Shoppers may also relive the classic Warner Bros. Pictures’ Polar Express movie with a fun train ride found below the centerpiece.


“We at SM City Baliwag always aspire to make every Christmas as memorable as possible for every Bulakenyos. This year, we hope to give them the best experience in lights and colors as we infused LED installations to form unique Christmas elements on our centerpiece” shares SM City Baliwag Mall Manager Rodora Tolentino.

The 25 ft. Christmas tree is a unique take from SM City Baliwag’s previous Christmas concepts. The exhibition of lights and play of colors served as a visual feast for the onlookers. The contemporary embellishments outlined with LED lights instantly captured the hearts of shoppers, young and old.


SM City Baliwag’s Christmas launch drew cheers from the crowd as flood of lights blended with excellent musicality to signal the grand reveal. The Mall Atrium became a music hall filled with classic Christmas chants making shoppers feel more like Christmas. Singer/Actress Julie Ann San Jose enticed the ecstatic crowd as she serenades them with popular songs of Christmas.

Apart from the launching of their centerpiece, gift-giving of Bears of Joy to the children of Baliwag also highlighted the program.


Meanwhile, SM Center Pulilan unravel a grand centerpiece that brings back childhood memories—a dreamy 30 feet tall and 20 feet diameter, two-layered Christmas tower. With the theme Toy Factory, the centerpiece was made of playful colors and elements of fun with fancy Christmas icons and classic toys displayed underneath the tree. Actor Derrick Monasterio brings full swing entertainment as he swoons the crowd with his rendition of Christmas songs.

“We are glad to take part in this year’s most wonderful time. This Christmas, we bring our classic centerpiece concept- The Toy Factory. Kids and even kids at heart are free to share moments and take wonderful pictures here, and reminisce the wonders of being a child again” says SM Center Pulilan Assistant Mall Manager Apple De Leon.

An imaginary rice field made of 20 feet giant minasa cookies highlighted the celebration of the province’s thriving agri-food industry during the launch of SM City Baliwag's Bulacan Food and Art BESTival.


Home Technology Food and Management Service students from Bulacan State University worked hand in hand for several hours to create 500 minasa pieces and to carefully mold them with intricate “palay” designs.

To create the enormous minasa that measured 12 inch long, students used premium ingredients such as 450 pieces of eggs, 58 kilograms cake flour, 73 kilograms sugar, 2 kilograms baking powder, 58 kilograms cassava flour and 48 kilograms butter. The unique attraction yielded 20,000 servings which was given freely for shoppers to enjoy.

Minasa cookies, derived from the Tagalog word “masa” or “hand kneading” is Bulacan’s pride pastry originated in the town of Bustos. A favorite pastry among every Bulakenyos, Minasa is a popular pasalubong and gift idea among local and tourists.

 “The biggest serving of food is more than a feast of the province’s best flavors but also a way of fostering patronization in our local products” shares SM City Baliwag Assistant Mall Manager Rodora Tolentino.


Following the unboxing of Biggest serving of food, the celebration also featured fun food art activities and workshops for aspiring Bulakeño chefs. Selected students from different schools in Bulacan had the rare chance to experience a hands-on training on the intricate and step-by-step process of doing minasa.


SM City Baliwag’s rice field minasa and SM Cty Marilao's giant biko captured the hearts of many shoppers as the two malls honor the contribution of local farmers in the province. As recalled, SM City Marilao unveiled the biggest Filipino rice cake last September 10 where 16,000 shoppers enjoyed the free biko treat.

SM Center Pulilan is also slated to bring the fun with one of a kind food art activities and workshops on September 21-22.

In time for Buwan ng Wika celebration this August, SM Center in this town became a venue of the timely gathering of new generation poets hailing from different towns in Bulacan.

Dubbed as “Kenyo: Tagalog Spoken Word” the event celebrated the evolution of Filipino Literature through time, in the form of Spoken word competition. Considered as an oral art, and a medium for self-expression, spoken word is a current form of Filipino poetry described as the dynamic use of words with a corresponding intonation, usually recited loud and clear in different styles and routines before an audience.

A joint project of SM Center Pulilan, National Commission for the Culture and the Arts- Philippine Cultural Education Program and Barasoain Kalinangan Foundation, Inc., Kenyo: Tagalog Spoken Word, gathered 13 participants hailing from different towns in Bulacan. Each took the stage to express their original spoken word compositions following the theme “Hugot ng Makatang Bulakenyo, Tatak Pilipinong Positibo”.  

A home to National Artist for literature Virgilio Almario aka Rio Alma, culture heroes like Francisco Baltazar (Balagtas) and José Corazon de Jesus (Huseng Batute), among others, Bulacan is known for its rich culture and history, making such occasion a meaningful one for Bulakenyos. Through such, spectators had a glimpse of genuine spoken word art and were able to ponder on certain issues that were raised during the competition including youth, family, love, education, political, social issues among others.

The competition aims to strengthen art and literature that which represents Bulakenyos, and to document as well the present situation of the society through the works of art that will come out of the competition.

Hailed as winners were Claire Ann Castro of Malolos as Champion, followed by Emmanuel Custodio of Malolos and Jcel Grace Albania of Calumpit as 2nd and 3rd placers respectively. Part of their award is the achievement of the Simbolikong Laurel ng Pagiging isang Makata.

Meanwhile, SM City Baliwag commemorate Buwan ng Wika with an Interpretative play and Poetic competition dubbed as “Gintong Aral Sa Oldietorium” an event participated by at least 155 Senior Citizens from selected Barangays in Baliwag.

Finally, City Youth Katropa Dance Showdown and City Youth Spoken Words Poetry were among the lineup of this year’s Buwan ng Wika at SM City San Jose Del Monte.
