Food Review: That Thing Called 7Flavors

by - May 20, 2015

7Flavors is not really a thing but it's a new Gourmet Cafe, Artisan Bakery and Asian Fusion Buffet all in one gorgeous place who just have their soft opening last May 13, 2015 to offer casual dining spot and foodie's paradise in San Juan district. It differentiate itself from others as dishes are lovingly crafted by a celebrated master of the arts, the renowned Chef Boy Logro.

Why 7Flavors? Most dishes features the bright and distinctive flavors such as sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, umami and astringent.  As far as i know there's only six flavors that i know of and the umami was just recently added. But astringent?  No, its not the beauty products that you know of. According to Ayurvedic nutrition, astringent taste is dry and light as found in popcorn.

7Flavors creates a mood of  feeling comfy through its Mediterranean (mostly wood furniture) design where everything reminds you of faraway vacation home and sunlight and good food. The cozy Gourmet Coffee in the ground floor is perfect for meeting with friends or just being there to wind down while drinking a good cup of coffee or trying their milkshakes or their 7 flavors cheesecake. The Artisan Bakery located outside is not your ordinary boulangerie because it is only here where you can find their one of a kind 7 Flavors enseymada. But it is to their World Fusion Buffet in the second floor that I'm going to try their dishes.

The ever beautiful Ms Kathy Kenny Ngo, who invited us, was talking to one of the owners, Mr. J. Karlo Aquino when we arrived. Immediately we were served with a drink of our choice to refresh us and I chose Butterbeer Milkshake from their menu. Whoa, shades of Harry Potter. And i am now a 7Flavors Butterbeer Milkshakes convert, their Butterbeer is that yummy.
Butterbeer Milkshakes

Seeing all those yummy drinks being served all around, I can't help but took photos of their Bubblegum, Smores The Elvis drinks among others.

And then it's time for our lunch and we headed  upstairs to begin the feast. On the corner of the second floor, a world fusion of buffet awaits us. Looking at all those foods, it reminds me of what my fave Korean drama "Let's Eat" said about buffet:

"A buffet is a battlefield lurking with food we need to conquer".
And there's so much to conquer. We follow Mr. Karlo's encouragement when he says "Chaaaaaaaaarge! and happily went our way to eat.

Carnivores would have a field day with the 7Flavors spread. There's the usual salad bar, appetizers and desserts. Mind you, they are only in their soft opening and they are already serving this world class dishes.
FISH MARINATED BY SWEET MISO
The fish is more of an appetizers for me and i love how the sweet miso makes the fish more tasty. You won't even bother with the sauce because its quite tasty alone.
CHICKEN WINGS BUTTER SPICY SAUCE
Pardon the language but this dish is so damn delicious and i would have come for more but other dishes might be insulted if i will just eat this Chicken Wings.
SHRIMP COCONUT TEMPURA
One of their bestseller, we literally have to wait for them to replenish the tempura. The coconut encrusted shrimp is so tasty and made more crunchy with the coconut batter.
ASIAN PORK RIBS
The Asian Pork Ribs is to die for as the meat was so tender and meaty, reminds me so much of the Korean Galbi.
FRIED POTATO WITH CHEESE AND BACON
The Fried Potato with Cheese and Bacon was fried very well and the toppings made it more tasty, it was crunchy but soft on the inside. Perfect!
CHICKEN DRUMSTICK STICKY LEMON SAUCE
I'm not much into lemon-infused dishes but this chicken drumstick is so zesty and would combined well with a hot steamed rice.
NORWEGIAN MEAT BALLS
This by far the best Norwegian Meatballs. It melts in your mouth and i was thinking it would be great with pasta.
MALAYSIAN BEEF RANDANG
The Malaysian Beef Randang reminds me of Bicol Express only not in spicy side.
KOREAN STYLE MAFU TOFU
I love how soft the tofu is and how it absorbed the flavors from the pork, it's a good thing it's not that much spicy otherwise i wouldn't have come back for it like four times. It's that good!
BEEF BOURGUIGNON
This classic French dish have meat so tender and the rich sauce alone is a viand in itself.
FRIED FISH WITH TROPICAL FRUIT SALSA
I love fish and when i saw this dish paired with a tropical fruit salsa, the combo is heavenly!
EGGPLANT PARMIGIANA
This is one dish you shouldn't miss at 7Flavors. The cheese and seasoning makes this one unforgettable dish.
CHEF'S SALAD
This salad is different from any other salad I've tasted maybe because i'm more into rich dressings but surprisingly i like it.

BAGOONG RICE
Pairs great with all the meat and fish dishes.
PORK BAGNET WITH FERMENTED SHRIMP
Sadly i didn't get to taste this because anything shrimp fermented makes me allergic but my friend said its delicious and the bagnet is so meaty, crisp and tender on the inside.
BUTTERED CHICKEN
My favorite of them all! I love how the chicken easily separates from the bone, how tender and tasty it is especially with its buttered sauce.

And here's the most awaited part, desserts... desserts... desserts. 7Flavors have limited desserts for the moment  but really you shouldn't miss their 7Flavors enseymada and cheesecakes although they come from their gourmet cafe and artisan bakery, they were really super kind when they served this to us.
7FLAVORS ENSEYMADA
This enseymada is a first of its kind. Topped with bacon and its signature 7Flavors, an absolute must try although I'm telling you its not your usual flaky enseymada but deliciious all the same. Can be paired great with coffee but for me drinking Coke while munching on this will be more great.

7FLAVORS CHEESECAKE
The 7Flavors Cheesecake is the star of the dessert menu. A 7Flavors original, it is a Calamansi infused cheesecake on a Coconut and Graham Crust topped with Ube and Langka mixture and fresh Durian frosted with Coffee Cream and dusted with Chocnut Crumble. By the time you devour that one slice you will taste all the seven flavors and would make you eat another slice simply for the enjoyment of it

Other desserts to sample includes:
STRAWBERRY CUP CHEF
This little cupcake is made more yummy with its strawberry frosting topped with strawberry slice.
LIME AND TEA SHOTS & APPLE CARAMEL CRUMBLE SHOT
The Lime and Tea Shots is the best!. And the Apple Caramel Crumble Shot, delish!
MANGO BAR

GERMAN CHOCOLATE BAR
Its a good thing that the toppings of the Mango Bar and the German Chocolate Bar taste great because i find the cake a little dry when i want it to be super moist. But then this dessert would be more sinful if that happened.

So what are you waiting for?  If you want a veritable treat of world fusion buffet, 7Flavors will give you a feast that you will never forget.
