I always heard about the Manila of old from people who have seen the best of Manila from those times. And Ermita is one of those places. In this part of the city, you can still see old houses, hotels and famous landmarks.  All I know about this place are photos of those glorious years.

Seeing those old buildings and houses, I would have loved to live during that period. I’m a history buff and I feel lucky that some of those places can still be seen in the city, they may not have the look of their former glory but a group of people have been doing their part in reviving the splendor of those places.

The Ermita Malate Business Owners Association EMBOA) is a group of business owners formed to bring back the glory days of Ermita and to let the world know that it is one of the safest, historic tourist place in this side of the city.

Last Friday, a group of Bloggers were invited by the Ermita Malate Business Owners Association to take part in their Christmas programs of gift giving and Christmas Caroling to 500 indigent youth.  It is also one of their ways of thanking the 16 Baranggays who have helped in their endeavor of making Ermita clean and a safe tourist spot.

“Maligayang Pasko, Handog Pasasalamat ng Ermita Malate Business Owners Association” was held at Remedios Circle. It was graced by no other than the Mayor of Manila, former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada.

According to Ms. Michelle Pe, EMBOA President, “This Christmas season, we wanted to share joy, love and happiness, and peace to the people most especially to the less fortunate kids. We want them to know that we care for them same as we care a lot for the development of Ermita, Malate.”

Also, Mayor Joseph Estrada promised that the city government will help in the venture of EMBOA and that they are one in their effort of bringing Ermita’s glory days.

Aside from the 500 indigent youth the activities were also attended by a thousand people. They were serenaded with Christmas songs by the Choir from Philippine Womens University and dance numbers from Universidad de Manila.

This 2016, EMBOA have lined up various projects such as the beautification of the Remedios Circle, massive cleanup drives and other activities aiming to bring back beauty of the place.

After the program, we were given Hotel Tours under the auspices of EMBOA.
