Chan Lim Family of Artist Exhibits 135 Hand-Painted Fans at SM City East Ortigas

You’ll be happy to know that you can catch the latest exhibition of the popular Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students as this time they formally launched an exhibit featuring 135 Hand-Painted Fans at the SM City East Ortigas last August 27, 2017. The launch also coincide with the celebration of the Mid Autumn Festival this year.


The exhibition showcases 135 exquisite Hand-Painted Fans where various artworks featuring Chinese culture and artistry is done on Chinese fans. The colourful exhibits participated by 42 artists are filling the atrium of the country’s number one shopping destination.

Known for their Asian-themed art with particular focus on Chinese Brush Painting, The Chan Lim Family of Artists has been actively engaged in the arts for more than half a century to date.  The three generations of Chan Lim family use a multitude of media, styles and techniques to incorporate Western into Eastern Art. The family actively develops and promotes Chinese brush painting in the Philippines and abroad.



Mr. Chan Lim, the Patriarch originally worked with oil and watercolor where most of his art in canvas.  He recently ventured into other types of media such as ceramic and porcelain plates, Asian lanterns and fans blending Western and Eastern techniques.

For several years now the family has conducted numerous art workshops, seminars, exhibits and on-the-spot painting demonstrations here and abroad. Their partnership with SM Supermalls has opened the eyes of many to the beauty and elegance of the Chinese arts.

The Cham Lim family aims to create art that does not exclude any media; they have continuously pushed the envelope on the type of media used for the Chinese brush. Their art subjects included flora, fauna, landscape and even portraits.  These themes can be seen in most of the family’s art, as well as their students. The family is one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country today and is sought after in this field.

During the exhibit kick-off, guests were treated to an hour of dabbling in Chinese arts using Chinese brush with the fan as a canvas. Provided with a set of art materials, each showed off their creative side under the guidance of the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students present that day.


Excitement soon become intense when Robin Padilla, a patron of Mr. Cham Lim and a close family friend appeared. Robin has always been a fan of their Chinese arts as well a student of Mr. Chan Lim in martial arts.


Afterwards, ribbon-cutting officially kicked-off the exhibit that will run from August 27 to September 24, 2017 at the Atrium of SM City East Ortigas.
