Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) Philippines Holds First-ever Funlasang Pinoy Twist Fest

Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) Philippines hold the first-ever Funlasang Pinoy Twist Fest competition last August 26, 2017 where chefs and cooks from across the country unleashed their creativity in putting a twist in classic Filipino dishes. The ten who competed were chosen among the 160 mouth-watering recipes of different Filipino dishes with a twist in a rigorous selection.


The competition was created to provide an avenue for the Pinoy chefs and cooks to showcase their talents and creativity to reignite everyone’s love for Filipino food.


During the final competition, UFS Philippines Managing Director James Benedict Carreon said, “The talent and creativity of Pinoy chefs are definitely something to be proud of. As a team of chefs who understand the needs of the culinary industry, we at Unilever Food Solutions are always finding ways to provide them avenues to gain more inspiration, knowledge, and access to the right products that will complement that and help them improve the dining experience of their loyal diners.”

Among the classic Pinoy dishes that the finalists needed to innovate with a twist are sinigang, kaldereta, pansit, sisig and tapa, using Knorr® products and Lady’s Choice® Real Mayonnaise.

Shoppers and guests at Eastwood witnessed how the ten very talented Pinoy chefs showcased their ingenuity in making a classic Filipino dish that stand out like we’ve never seen nor tasted before. Among the ten who competed are:

Christian Lenard Lachenal – Baked Ox Tail Kaldereta
Miguel Valdez – Sisig Mashbombs
Fernando Joson – Sisig Parmigiana
Mel Adrian Tobias – Sinigang na Sisig
John Alouette Jugo – Grilled Sinigang and Sinigang Rice Topped with Kangkong Flakes
Lance Sendin –  Sisig Empanada with Liver May0 Dip
Jeane Cruz – Sisig Pasta with Salted Egg
Junrey Remiter – Kalderetang Tinali sa Pancit
Danilo Puga – Octopus Sisig
Rossana Rosal – Shrimp Sinigang Fried Rice

The dishes were judged based on the creativity of the twist, food taste and presentation, and the use of the UPS products. Among the judges are the esteemed culinary experts Executive Chef Fernando Aracama of Aracama Filipino Cuisine, UFS Senior Sous Chef Brando Santos, and UFS Senior Sous Chef Paulo Sia.

After a careful deliberation, Chef Danilo Puga with his Octopus Sisig dish was recognized as the first-ever Funlasang Pinoy Twist Fest 2017 Champion. He brought home the P100,000 cash prize, exclusive publicity features, and a special feature in the official Funlasang Pinoy Cookbook.
