Academy of Pastry and Bakery Arts Philippines hosts 1st Edition ‘Pastry Queen Philippines 2017’
The word patisserie have such a lovely
ring to it, don’t you think so? It makes you think of those spread of pastries
which is such a heavenly sight. And behind each pastry we love to savor are
pastry mavericks whose deft hands and creative minds are responsible for these
sweet treats.
Recognizing
the fairer stalwarts of pastry making, the Academy of Pastry and Bakery Arts
Philippines pitted the best of the best in the Academy in its first edition ‘Pastry Queen Philippines 2017’ where the winner will
then compete at the Ladies World Pastry Championship to be held at the SIGEP,
Rimini, Italy.
The ‘Pastry Queen Philippines 2017’ was
held last September 28-29, 2017 at the campus where Pastry Chef Janelle Joy Toh
of Academy of Pastry and Bakery Arts Philippines and Chef de Partie Gonzala
“Zally” Familgan of City of Dreams Manila competed and showcased their talent
of pastry making.
For the final round, the two Chefs
showcased their works for the judgment. The Board of Judges consists of Chef
Peachy Juban of De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Chef Michael “Miko”
Aspiras, Pastry Chef of The Tasteless Food Group, Chef Gerhard Baux, Director
for External and Cullinary Affairs and Chef Sunshine Puey of Gourmandise
Patisserie.
The
competition was open for all Filipina professional female pastry chefs
currently actively working in an organization of repute and of the age of above
21 years.
The selected contestant have been given advance training at the Academy of Pastry and Bakery Arts Philippines to further hone up their skill to compete at international level at SIGEP 2018.

At the end of the competition, Chef Janelle
Joy Toh of the Academy of Pastry and Bakery Arts Philippines was declared as
the first Pastry Queen Philippines 2017 to the delight of the guests present at
the announcement.
Chef Janelle will be our representative
at the Women's Pastry Chef Competition at the SIGEP show in Rimini, Italy, to
be held on 20-24 January 2018.
