Banaue International Music Composition Competition launched to create awareness of the Banaue Rice Terraces.
In line with the Banaue Rice Terraces
Restoration Project of Universal Harvester, Inc. headed by Dr. Milagros How and
the local government of Banaue led by Mayor Jerry U. Dalipog, a music
competition is inviting all local and international composers to join the 2018 BANAUE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC
COMPOSITION COMPETITION and have the chance to be immersed in the Banaue’s
local culture, be inspired with it and translate it into music.
The BANAUE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC
COMPOSITION COMPETITION is not only a great opportunity for the composers but it also aims to
promote awareness of our country’s world heritage treasure - the Banaue Rice
Terraces.
At
the media conference held last March 8, 2018 at the Rizal Ballroom of Makati
Shangri-la Hotel Dr. Margarita How, Head of the Banaue Rice Terraces Restoration
Project of Universal Harvester, Inc. shared to the media how proud she is of
the incoming competition. “We want to let the world know that the Philippines
is home to great wonders, not just in term of natural resources, but also in
inspiring talents from all over the world.”
Luminaries
from the music industries are also present in the said occasion. The 2018 Banaue
International Music Composition Competition is open to composers around the
Philippines and all over the world, this is the first time that a competition
of this magnitude will be held in the country. The event is set to bring
excitement and cultural awakening to select participants and their “obra
maestra” will first be played before the people of the province of Banaue.
Proving
how big the event is , the Grand prize winner will get $12,000 USD while two
consolation prizes will get $6,000 USD each and great opportunity to have a
week-long immersion in Banaue.
An
immersion will be given to the select 20 Composer Fellows, During the Banaue
Immersion Program, they will learn and experience Banaue’s culture and music.
As they immersed in the culture, new perspectives and inspiration may resort to
a revision in their entry right before the semi-finals.
Out
of the 20, only 10 will be chosen to be the finalists that will perform during
the finals night to be held on July 25, 2015 at the Cultural Center of the
Philippines.
