SM City Taytay Launches Barbie in the East: Passion for Filipiniana Fashion, A Rizal Inter-Town Competition


The Art Capital of the Philippines, Rizal, is celebrating its 117th Araw ng Lalawigan. To celebrate this momentous occasion, SM City Taytay, together with Richprime Global lnc., Mattel, Toy Kingdom and the Association of Tourism Officers of Rizal, recently launched Barbie in the East, a showcase of the iconic Barbie dressed in different gowns represented by 13 towns and 1 city of Rizal.


During the official launch and ribbon cutting ceremony held last June 4, 2018, SM City Taytay Mall Manager Ms. Maureen Fernandez shared, “Barbie in the East aims to urge creativity and resourcefulness to each participant representing their municipalities depicting their culture and lifestyle.”


These creations were all hand-made by each representatives/participants coming from the municipalities of Baras, Angono, Binangonan, Morong, San Mateo, Rodrigyez, Pililia, Teresa, Taytay, Tanay, Jala-Jala, Cardona, Cainta, and the city of Antipolo last May 25, 2018 at SM Ciaytay.



Barbie in the East was a well-attended affair led by the Honorable Rizal Vice Governor Frisco San Juan, Rizal Arts Federation Chairwoman and First Lady of Antipolo Andrea Ynares, Rizal Tourism Officer Dra. Corazon Lacerna and the representatives from the different municipalities and city of Rizal.


Aside from the creations made by the participants, a special display was also on hand as created by fashion designers Ganda Anore, Nelson Dolores, Arvy Paul Blancada Labrador, Paula Buenaventura and Gener Gozum. Three of the creations were inspired by the Filipiniana gowns of Ms. Andrea Ynares. The Rizal Provincial Tourism also has one as created by the Association Tourism of Rizal.



After careful judging, the winners were announced and the list of winners of the Passion for Filipiniana Fashion: A Rizal Inter-Town Competition are:

Social Media Award and 3rd Prize Winner – City of Antipolo


Toy Kingdom Choice Award - Municipality of Taytay


2nd Prize Winner - Municipality of Pililia


GRAND PRIZE WINNER - Municipality of Teresa


This isn’t the first time that SM City Taytay hosted inter-town contests of this calibre. Over the years, they hold competition with the likes of Paint your Town in a Gown, Byahe Tayo lntertown Miniature Jeepney designing contest, Pinoy Fun sa Barong lntertown Barong Design contest, Art in Cutlery intertown giant spoon and fork hand painting competition, and now Barbie in the East a passion for Filipiniana Fashion.


Barbie in the East will be displayed at the Bridgeway of SM City Taytay from June 5-17, 2018.

Dina dela Paz, Awarded as Most Influential Filipina in the World

Another Filipina awarded in the 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL FILIPINA IN THE WORLD.

City Garden Grand Hotel Holds 2nd GRAND Skills Competition

Today, students from the Far Eastern University, National University, Philippine Women University, Lyceum and the University of Sto. Tomas got together for City Garden Grand Hotel’s 2nd GRAND Skills Competition.


For the second time City Garden Grand Hotel hold the competition where the top 5 schools competed for the chance to be the best in the following categories: Table set up with Centerpieces, Food Art, Bartending/Cocktail Mixing, and Gourmet Student Meals.






For six hours, students took the time to set up tables with their own theme and menu, prepared gourmet meals, food art and concoct drinks. Then it was time for the judges to pick the best among the best. Judges includes Chef Miko Aspiras, Jill Meneses, Chef Dennis Peralta, Jason Hussein Ali, Jordan Tan.
