Allegro Beverage is All Set for the 12th Philippine Grand Barista Cup and 5th Latte Art Throwdown
The
ultimate and the longest running Barista competitions in the country is
happening this September 14, 2018 at the Asia Food Expo (AFEX) in the World
Trade Center, but before that, the 5th Latte Art Throwdown will be staged on
September 13, 2018 in the same venue.
Made
possible by the Allegro Beverage Corporation, the Philippines preferred coffee
solutions provider, in partnership with LNA Management Group, these events have
grown in popularity and are celebrated by industry and coffee aficionados as it
showcased the exceptional talent and craftsmanship of Filipinos in the art of coffee
the process of blending, style, creativity and presentation.
During
the media launch held last September 7, 2018 during the 22nd Food and Drinks Asia
2018, Mr. Leo de Leon said that these coffee competitions in the last
12 years have highlighted the technical and creative skills of the barista
Finalists in service presentation, creativity and passion for coffee. He is
proud to say that more than half of its past winners have relocated overseas
for greener pastures. He added that there is a large demand for experienced
Filipino baristas in cruise ships, hotels, casinos, restaurants and coffee
shops.
In one of his trips where he attended
the World Barista Championship in Dublin, Ireland, he shared that there were four
natural-born Filipinos competing during the Championship but interestingly,
they are representing countries from the Middle East and Austria.
For
this year’s competition, its objectives are the following:
To promote the excellence and
recognition of the barista profession.
To increase the appreciation for
specialty coffee especially Philippine Arabica beans.
To raise the bar for Filipino baristas
competing in world championships.
As of
this time, the country’s highest ranking has been 13th place out of 60
countries at the World Barista Championships.
De Leon is also pleased to announce that
the Grand Winner of the 12th Philippine Grand Barista Cup and 5th Latte Art
Throwdown will receive a Championship trophy, a Franke fully automatic espresso/cappuccino
machine worth P100k, a Barista Kit worth P15k, free overnight hotel stays at
Midas Hotel & Casino and Allegro gift bags from the competition’s valued
sponsors.
The
following coffee industry experts from around the world will be the International
Judges of the competition. They are Marco Poidomani (Italy), Francesco Neri
(Italy), Fabian Fredriksson (Sweden), Tristan Destura (Singapore), Fernando
Memndez (Spain).
Local
judges are composed of Head Judge Ernie Messina, Joe Mari Lichangco, Sheerwin
Halasan, and John Richard del Rosario.
The major partners for these events are the
EXPOBAR (the PGBC Official Espresso Machine from Spain), MOAK Special Bar (the
PGBC Official Coffee Beans from Italy), Routin 1883 and Fruiss (the PGBC
Official Gourmet Syrups from France), Nuova Simonelli (the PGBC Oftlcial
Espresso Coffee Bean Grinder from Italy) and Franke fully automatic machines
from Switzerland.
