According to the 2016 List of Establishments of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the Philippines has a total of 915,726 business enterprises operating nationwide. This was 1.64% more than the 900,914 business establishments reported in 2015. Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) account for 99.57% (911,768) of the total establishments, of which 89.63% (820,795) were microenterprises, 9.50% (86,955) were small enterprises, and 0.44% (4,018) were medium enterprises. Large enterprises made up the remaining 0.43% (3,958).

It is this generation of business-minded people that Puzon and POSIBLE hopes to tap in their overall aim of reaching the unbanked communities across the country. Currently, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) pegs this number as up to 36 percent of towns and cities in the Philippines that still do not have access to banks or payment centers.

“With their energy and optimism, we want to partner with young entrepreneurs, so we can achieve the vision of a financially-inclusive Philippines,” Puzon said. “Their business acumen and digital-savvy will help connect more Filipinos to an increasingly digital financial system.

“More so, with POSIBLE SHOPBOX we want to enable the Filipino consumer in the barrio to enjoy online retail shopping, connecting them to the digital economy and spurring local economic growth,” Puzon added.

For its efforts in making financial inclusion happen in the Philippines, POSIBLE was recognized as one of the Top 15 ventures in Asia at the DBS-NUS Social Venture Challenge held in Singapore last October 2017.

Currently, POSIBLE offers more than 300 digital services to over a million Filipino consumers and has already generated close to P5 billion worth of transactions. With over 2,000 retailers nationwide to date, POSIBLE is on-track to achieve its goal of connecting every Philippine town and city to the digital economy within the next five years.
