SM Aura Premier Officially Unveils the Francisco V. Coching—King of Komiks
From
the 1920s up to its dying days in the 1990s, komiks has been a popular reading
material in the Philippines. It was during the 1950‘s and 1960s that Filipino
komiks reached its golden age and leading and proven to be a big influence in
forming this visual art form was National Artist Francisco V. Coching, also
known as the “Dean of Filipino illustrators.”
Francisco
V. Coching was a master storyteller and his active period as a komiks writer and
illustrator which span forty years helped formed the visual culture of that
era.
SM
Aura Premier together with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts is
holding a one week exhibit celebrating the works of the National Artist for
Visual Arts and King of Comics. Entitled Francisco V. Coching's Centennial
Exhibit or the Francisco V. Coching—King of Komiks Exhibit will run from February
18-24, 2019 at the Upper Ground Floor Atrium, SM Aura Premier.
The exhibit, officially launched earlier, will feature his original artworks, the Unang Labas komiks spreads, and life-size reproductions of his most popular characters and works. A tribute to his craft, SM Aura Premier hopes to share this legacy to the new generation.
Trivia:
