“beep™ was born out of a public-private partnership designed to serve the people. Over the years, we have collaborated closely with various agencies in the implementation of a modern, efficient, and reliable payment system that helps improve the quality of life of every Filipino. With the Philippine government’s full support for the adoption of digital financial transactions through EO 170, we are optimistic that an inclusive, resilient, and future-ready economy is on the horizon. This certainly bodes well for the country’s push for national competitiveness,” said Jonathan Juan Moreno, President and CEO of AF Payments Inc.

Colegio de San Juan de Letran is celebrating its 400th anniversary next year and as part of the celebrations, it will be releasing limited edition commemorative beep™ cards bearing the Letran 400 logo.

Specially designed for students, alumni, and other beep™ card collectors, the Letran beep™ card will be sold at Letran Bookstore for Php500 each, beginning August 1, 2019. The sale of the special cards is in conjunction with the fundraising program for the school’s Grand Celebration in 2020.

“We are celebrating our 400 years in 2020. We thank beep™ Cards for partnering with us. One of the thrusts of our celebration is to give back, thus, we are targeting to have 400 scholars. This is one way of helping your beloved Letran celebrate its 400 years. Siempre Arriba, Siempre Letran!” Jhennie Villar- co-chair of the Letran Quadricentennial celebration.

Colegio de San Juan de Letran was founded in 1620 by Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero, a retired Spanish officer, and Diego Santa Maria, a Dominican brother. Since then, it has survived wars and calamities and remained true to its commitment to pursue knowledge and excellence, producing stalwarts in the fields of medicine, sports, media and entertainment, business, and public service, to name a few.

Letran kicked off its quadricentennial celebration in November 2016 and has since been celebrating it with special events, homecomings, and tributes to alumni who have been part of weaving the school’s long and colorful history. The celebrations are divided into phases  (the past, the present, the future, and forever) covering important parts of Letran’s story, among which is the Conquistar Nuevas Glorias (Conquering New Glories) phase, where celebrations dwell on the future, looking forward to everything it holds.

“Colegio de San Juan de Letran is ushering in a new era of positive developments and we at beep™ card are truly honored to be part of it. Students have always been among our biggest supporters and we believe that the special Letran beep™ card is a great way to showcase school pride,” said Peter Maher, President and CEO of AF Payments Inc.

Letran’s main campus is located in Intramuros, Manila, accessible via LRT-1, LRT-2, and e-trikes, in which beep™ card is the main mode of payment. Those who will purchase the special edition Letran 400 beep™ cards will also enjoy the benefits of the planned expansion to establishments and tourist attractions within the Walled City.

beep™ is a tap-and-go payment card used in all three elevated railways and select buses, PUVs, tollways, and retail partners. It is reloadable and valid for four years. More information about beep™ is available at its website and official social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

AF Payments Inc. (AFPI), operator of the tap-to-pay beep™ card, has partnered with real estate developer Property Company of Friends, Inc. (PRO-FRIENDS) to expand beep™ card acceptance in their master-planned communities.

PRO-FRIENDS started as a provider of low-income homes before moving on to township projects for higher market segments. Under the partnership, PRO-FRIENDS major developments in Cavite ─ Lancaster New City and Bellefort Estates ─ will accept beep™ card as a mode of payment.

PRO-FRIENDS will release beepTM-enabled Lancaster New City and Bellefort Estates Resident ID cards to enable residents to pay for their transport, and soon, other amenities. Automated loading kiosks will be set up in key locations for convenient card loading. beep™ cards can also now be loaded from funds held in a COINS.ph wallet on NFC enabled Android phones.

“Part of the PRO-FRIENDS brand of customer service is finding ways to make life easier and more convenient for our homeowners. We believe that the beepTM payment system can bring added convenience to our residents. We are thrilled that Lancaster New City and Bellefort Estates are now part of the growing beep™ card ecosystem,” said Juny Santillan, PRO-FRIENDS senior vice president and Strategic Business Unit 1 Head.

Lancaster New City is a thriving community where residents enjoy amenities like the clubhouse, playground, basketball court, swimming pool, church, and school. At present, there are buses that travel from Lancaster New City to Coastal Mall terminal in Pasay via CAVITEX. Meanwhile, Bellefort Estates boasts of an enviable location at the “Golden Triangle” as it is connected to the main roads leading to Cavite, Alabang, and Laguna, allowing for easy access to important commercial establishments and institutions.

Part of PRO-FRIENDS’ selling proposition is the proximity of its developments to Metro Manila and the airport, and accessibility through major transport hubs. beep™ card acceptance in these developments thereby extends the convenience of secure payments and seamless transfers, as well as overall better consumer experience.

“At the core of the creation of the beep™ card is the desire to make everyday transactions more convenient through cashless payments. We are excited that an industry prime mover such as PRO-FRIENDS has partnered with us to extend the benefits of cashless payments to more Filipinos,” said Peter Maher, President and CEO of AF Payments Inc.

The beep™ card will be accepted in Lancaster New City starting June 1, 2018 and in Bellefort Estates beginning July 1, 2018. The ID cards will be sold through the developments’ respective Administrative Offices.

beep™ card is a tap-and-go smartcard used to pay for fare in all elevated train stations, select bus lines, in CAVITEX, NLEX, and at select FamilyMart, Robinsons Movieworld, Wendy’s, and select Circle K and 7Eleven branches. It can be reloaded at any train station teller or ticket vending machine, select convenience stores and bills payment outlets, and the Coins.ph mobile app for NFC enabled Android smartphone users.

AF Payments Inc. (AFPI), the company behind the Automated Fare Collection System beep™ and the supplier of the self-service Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) in LRT1, LRT2 and MRT, has begun the calibration needed for TVMs to accept the new five peso coins released by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) late last year.

The calibration work will be conducted in Germany where the supplier of the coin acceptor unit used in the machines is based. AFPI’s partner in Germany is one of the leading suppliers of vending machine coin acceptors in the world.

Taking into consideration any unforeseen delays in the process, the new coins are expected to be usable at all TVMs across the three elevated railways (LRT 1, LRT 2, and MRT 3) this March.

“For the protection of our consumers and the train operators we serve, we only work with experienced and reputable suppliers who have the capability to perform this type of sensitive system upgrade” said Agnes Padilla, spokesperson for AF Payments, Inc.

In the meantime, AFPI advises the commuting public to double-check their five peso coins before inserting them into the TVMs to avoid any inconvenience. It also reminds passengers that they can opt to buy Single Journey Tickets and even replace their new coins for old ones at the station tellers.

Lastly, the company reminds the public that they can purchase and reload the tap-and-go beep™ cards at FamilyMart, Circle K, SM Bill Pay, Robinsons Business Center and Bayad Center outlets as well as at the stations.

If you’re a regular commuter in BGC, this one’s for you.

BGC recently announced improved bus routes and schedules that will help lessen passengers’ waiting time. The new routes were developed based on historical data of foot traffic and travel time.

Starting August 7, Monday, Express buses plying different routes will be optimized with fewer stops so passengers can get to their destination faster.

For instance, two new routes, the Upper West and Lower West Express buses, will only have two and three stops, respectively; while buses in the East Express route will carry passengers via a P2P (Point-to-Point bus). In the meantime, buses driving the North Express route will have four stops.

Going home late won’t be a problem anymore, as each Express bus will now be accessible to the riding public from 6am to 10pm.

Sean Luarca, BGC’s Marketing Manager shares “The BGC Bus is considered the main transport system within BGC. We have the commuting public in mind when we decided to redesign the bus routes, stops, and schedules. By assessing historical data, we have come up with a system to help alleviate passenger wait time so BGCitizens and guests can reach their destinations safely and conveniently within the shortest time possible.”

Based on records, the BGC Bus serves a total of 41,000 passengers per day.

The standard BGC bus fare stays at P12. BGC Bus accepts payments via beep™ card.
