Harry Potter rejoice as the first  Museum Context store in the Philippines, offering an immersive Harry Potter shopping experience will open thisN November 9, 2019 at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) in Manila.

The launch marks a new chapter for the Museum Context brand, which cast its spell on avid Harry Potter fans father-daughter Carlo and Katsie Llave, who first came across the magical retail experience on a ‘Potter Pilgrimage’ visit to Scotland’s capital Edinburgh.

They were blown away by the immersive Museum Context retail concept when they visited the flagship store packed with officially licensed Harry Potter merchandise and curiosities at 40 Victoria Street, the cobbled Victorian street in Edinburgh’s Old Town which is believed to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley. Katsie Llave’s company will be spearheading the project and opening the Manila branch.

The new store is likely to a magnet for Potter fans as well as people with an interest in interiors and the arts. It will stock a range of curated gift and home interiors pieces including official film replicas, stationery and fashion items.

Museum Context founder Andrew McRae said: “A chance meeting in Edinburgh led to this collaborative venture which will spread some of the Museum Context magic in the Philippines. We are very excited to introduce the brand to the region with the support of SM MOA, and to welcomeC Carlo and Katsie as partners.

“We look forward to seeing the reaction of visitors to our unique and truly immersive shopping experience which has its origins in the birthplace of Harry Potter, and home of JK Rowling. Our customers love the feeling of discovering special items among our carefully curated gift and home interior items. We stock an extensive range of official Harry Potter merchandise alongside work by
top European artists and a whole range of weird and wonderful curiosities to suit all pockets.”

Katsie Llave is ecstatic about the project: “When we started our small events company, it was our dream to create magical moments for fans BY fans. In everything we’ve ever done, we have always prided ourselves in being able to deliver experiences that we ourselves would like to experience, and this partnership with Museum Context has given us the perfect opportunity to do just that. Every item in this shop has been selected with genuine excitement and dedication to the brand, and we are confident that fans will fall in love with this just as much as we have. We are truly looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our Potter family, and hope that it will continue to grow because of it. The magic lives on.”

Founded in Edinburgh in 2007 and now operating from four outlets across the city, Museum
Context’s award-winning retail concept launched in Hong Kong in 2011. Since then it has operated  from profile locations across Hong Kong Island, Macau and in Tsim Sha Tsui. The brand has established many successful partnerships, working with museums and cultural organisations as well as commercial operators, and has featured heavily in UK and global media. From Harry Potter first discovering Diagon Alley to the famous trio escaping on a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon in their quest for a Horcrux, Gringotts Wizarding Bank played an important role in the Harry Potter film series. On 6th April, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London will unveil a permanent addition allowing visitors to walk through the wizarding bank of Gringotts, the Lestrange vault, a gallery of goblins and so much more.

Lined by towering marble pillars, the grand banking hall will be decorated with three magnificent crystal chandeliers and finished with real brass leaf. Inkwells, quills, ledgers and piles of Galleons, Sickles and Knuts will complete the goblin tellers’ desks as seen on screen. The Prop-making Department, led by Pierre Bohanna, created over 210,000 coins for the final two films alone.

Gringotts Wizarding Bank is famously run by goblins. Walking through the imposing marble columns, visitors will discover the costumes and prosthetics belonging to Bogrod, Griphook and many other goblin bankers. Each prosthetic mask took weeks to create, with every hair individually inserted and veins painstakingly painted by hand. It took four hours to transform actor Warwick Davis into Griphook in the films which included him wearing black contact lenses and dentures with extremely sharp teeth to complete the goblin look.

HARRY POTTER “20TH ANNIVERSARY” COVERS BY AWARD-WINNING ILLUSTRATOR NOW AVAILABLE IN THE PHILIPPINES

It’s official, I’m old! I can’t believe that Potterheads around the world is officially celebrating 20 years of Harry Potter with the release of new book covers by a known and award-winning artist. It seems it was just yesterday when I was browsing around National Bookstore and I was intrigued by this book with a bespectacled boy riding a broomstick entitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. After reading it overnight, I went back to National to look for the second book but it was sold out already! But thank God my friend Rye has one. He said that he was a little bit embarrassed to tell me that he was reading a YA book, but it was so good he said. Good thing he has the book in his car and I finished reading it in one sitting. Then we influenced another friend and we three can’t stop talking about Harry Potter. That was the start of our Harry Potter addiction and over the years, the agony of waiting for each book is a real torture.

If we shared books with the first two books, the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is another story. We each bought our own then and it was always the hardcover edition starting with this one.  We always made sure we were the first to get our hands with the new book and the most memorable one will always be the release of Book 7 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where we were up by dawn to fall in line because it was going to be a worldwide simultaneous release.

On my part, book 7 had the most impact on me, dislodging Book 5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix where Sirius Black died (after that I got numbed with some of the characters being killed so I was numbed enough when Dumbledore died).

I know Book 7 is going to be brutal but I wasn’t really prepared for it. All those deaths, Fred’s death hit me the hardest that I stopped reading for five hours, was hard to accept and I kept thinking how JK Rowling is such a murderer. You might think I’m overreacting but this is how much I’m into Harry Potter and his world.

The release of book 7 is the end of an era and I always think that no book can surpass the Harry Potter series and how it left an impression to many who have read it. (The movies are another matter) I am glad that we are the first generation who discovered the series.

Yes, twenty years went by so fast and Harry Potter was such a large part of me and my friends’ life. Every time JK Rowling would hand out Harry Potter crumbs, we were always excited to wait for it. Fan fiction is also a godsend for many of us who can’t let go of Harry Potter. As for me, I began to collect Harry Potter international editions, not all but a particular book that I like. When Scholastica announced that they will release a HARRY POTTER “20TH ANNIVERSARY” new Covers Illustrated by Award-Winning Artist Brian Selznick, I was overjoyed. I was planning to buy the series one book at a time for like a period of 5 months for my collection, but LOOK!!!

Scholastic is treating Potterheads to the brand-new ‘20“ Anniversary“ covers of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, illustrated by worldwide bestselling author and award-winning artist Brian Selznick. The release of the new edition marks the celebrated milestone of the 20th Anniversary of the US publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The highly anticipated new paperback editions have been released last June 26, 2018.

Breathing the epic story into life, the new edition is rendered with Selznick’s signature black and white style with jewel-toned type. But when the covers are placed side by side in a chronological order, this is where the real magic happens. The covers will then form a dazzling single image that tells the overarching story that begins with Harry’s arrival at Number Four, Privet Drive. through the epic conclusion of the Battle of Hogwarts.

All seven covers depict thrilling moments and beloved characters from across the series, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Albus Dumbledore, and many more. Sharp-eyed readers will spot intricate details throughout the artwork, such as Hermione’s Time-Turner, Harry's Patronus, the maze from the Triwizard Tournament, and the Hogwarts Express steaming toward a new school year with the next generation on board.

Being a fan himself, Selznick said, “I’m a huge Harry Potter fan (a proud Hufflepuff!), and to be asked to illustrate the 20th Anniversary edition covers was an absolute honor. I knew this project came with so much responsibility to the stories, as well as to the readers.

Philippines also celebrated Scholastic 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter with a special tea party held at 49-B Heirloom Kitchen last June 30, 2018.

Scholastic Asia with Pinoy Harry Potter, Hogwarts Phils and National Bookstore celebrated the 20 years of Harry Potter Magic with tournament by way of quiz and activities, where each house; Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff competed for the “House Cup.” Off course, Gryffindor won!

Heirloom’s special menu were served and we especially loved their cookies and scones with butter and jam.

Overall, the celebration is a huge success and some were lucky enough to take home a complete set of Harry Potter books.

Thank you so much Ms. Joyce Bautista, Scholastic Asia and the rest of the team for the magical celebration.

I was looking at my Twitter earlier when i saw this post of J.K.Rowling that makes me quite mad.

This tweet brings back every ire I've felt during those time. Reasonable ire,  my foot!. And what? sorry?  I will not accept your apology J.K. Rowling.

Harry Potter might just be fiction to some but for us who invested time and emotion for it, each story and characters is as real to us as if they are people we met on the street.

Of all the Harry Potter's book, The Deathly Hallows is the only book in the series that I've read only once and that was in 2007. That book made me cried a lot, from Hedwig's death to Lupin, Tonks and Fred's. I stopped reading for a few hours after reading Fred's death. I remember throwing the book and not picking it up. I was so affected, even now it brings tears to my eyes. His death feels like I've lost a family member. So when i got back into reading after a few hours, I was quite numbed, only Molly Weasley's "Not my daughter, you bitch!" scene do i perked up a little. And i love the epilogue but really not Fred's death.

I cried for Sirius and Dumbledore too but Fred's death is different. You also thought so Ms. Rowling as you admit that writing Fred's death is the worst for you.

So Ms. Rowling your apology might be appreciated by some but not me. You might have chosen the date of May 2 to express your regret, because in Harry Potter fictional world, it's the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts but for me it will always be Fred Weasley's Death Anniversary.

This is the first time after 2007 that I've seen this paragraph and it makes me sad again.
