Launches Campaign For Environmental Awareness

Manila Bay is famous for its beautiful sunset but I didn't realize until now how that beauty is marred by the trash scattered along its seaside. Gone also were the days when you go to this place to get a breath of fresh air and it has healing qualities as the old people always used to say. It has been years since I last joined the clean up projects along Manila Bay and I was saddened when I saw that the same problem still persists.

But the good news is that the Manila Bay SUNSET Partnership Program Inc, (MBSPPI) now on its 6th year, has continued the clean up and rehabilitation project. And to up the ante, it has launched an Information and Education Campaign (IEC) entitled "That Thing Called Basura" that will supplement the program's clean up efforts and boost the environmental awareness to the public.

Launched last August 8, 2015 during the Annual Manila Bay Clean Up, the IEC is part of LANDBANK 52nd Anniversary celebration which aims to educate the public on the urgent need for proper waste management what with the massive accumulation of solid waste in water ways, rivers and the Manila Bay. The Miss Earth Foundation also figured prominently in this launch.

To better grasp what's the campaign's all about and to know more of the need to reinforce  the 3R + D = 0 (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle + Discipline equals Zero Basura), watch this AVP which was first premiered during the clean up and will be played in all various channels and corporate websites and social media sites of all (MBSPPI) members and offices of government agencies, terminals and other public spaces.

Moreover, the IEC will be supported by the social media campaign dubbed as "SolusyonNiBinion:3R+D" through an official Facebook account where stakeholders and volunteers may post and share their best practices for the environment  by using the hashtag #BinNyoYan. Binion, introduced during the program, is the IEC primary mascot, a representation of segregation trash bin.

In her given speech, LANBANK President and CEO Gilda E. Pico and Honorary Chairperson of MBSPPI said: "We are optimistic that this campaign will prompt behavioral change among the public. We encourage everyone's active participation in sharing this campaign with your circles, most especially with your respective community."

During the launch, about 1,000 MBSPPI members volunteered to clean the Bay.

Another highlight of the program is the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement  for new partners and the turnover of a portion of the process from the Manila Bay Fun Run on July 11, organized by the Manila Broadcasting Company to help in funding the clean up operations. It amounted to P119,795.00.

The MBSPPI, chaired by LANDBANK was formally established with an initial member of 5.
Today, it has twenty three members.
