For a country located in the tropical
part of the world, ice sports is kind of unusual unless you’re a Winter
Olympian figure skater who has been skating in the MOA rink since he was seven years old or part of a
community of pure hockey enthusiasts whose been playing at the rink of the SM
Skating since 2008.
To the delight and pride of our country,
these are the very people who brought home the very first medal for the
newly-introduced winter sport in the South East Asian Games. The SM Skating’s
Ice Hockey team brings the gold for the sport and adding to the roster of wins
for the country is Michael Martinez’s silver placer in the men’s division of figure
skating while Alisson Perticheto won the bronze medal for the women’s division
of figure skating.
To celebrate our success in the just
concluded 29th SEA Games, SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. and its
SM Skating proudly welcomed the athletes where they lifted up their medals in
pure joy and gratification to the crowd who gathered at the skating rink in SM
Megamall last August 31, 2017. Afterwards, 2014 Winter Olympian Michael
Christian Martinez wowed the crowd with a solo performance.
SM Skating is the sole catalyst of ice
sports in the Philippines. Headed by the SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc’s president,
Mr. Edgar Tejero, he congratulated the relatively young ice hockey team and two
seasoned figure skaters for a job well done. They proudly displayed the
Philippines’ colors across the Malaysia’s skating rink.
Under the patronage of SM Prime Holding
Inc’s Chairman of the Executive Committee Mr. Hans Sy, the athletes were able
to train more intensely at their official training ground, the SM Skating Rink.
